Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine, solid, flexible, smooth tipped and sterile
stainless steel DISPOSABLE needles into the body at specific pathways, called meridians,
that run in patterns through the body and its surfaces. The needles influence and
re-establish the meridian flow that nourishes tissues and organs. "Qi" (chee) is the
energy that flows through the body. When the Qi is not flowing smoothly or
is not in balance, pain and disease occur. The needle insertion is usually painless and
far different than the hypodermic needles used for injections; however, some people
may experience some discomfort.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Traditional Chinese Medicine views the body quite differently from modern medicine.
Diagnostics take into account the entire body, subtle and obvious symptoms and the patients'
lifestyle. Even the tongue and pulse can reveal a tremendous amount to the skilled physician.
After diagnosis, the physician assimilates all the information to formulate a treatment strategy.
The acupoints are selected and the treatment series begins, usually lasting about one hour.
Every patient reacts differently to the treatments. Some feel immediate relief, others
delayed relief, and many may require more than one treatment. The effects of acupuncture are generally accumulative.
SIGNIFICANT CHANGES are usually obvious after 5-8 sessions (average course is usually between 8-12 sessions).
Some ACUTE situations may be resolved in 1-5 treatments where severe, CHRONIC conditions may require several courses.
